Principal's Report

Dear Families,

National Simultaneous Storytime

This Wednesday all classes enjoyed taking part in the National Simultaneous Storytime for 2025, joining thousands of children across the country in reading 'The Truck Cat' written by Deborah Frenkel, illustrated by Danny Snell. This event promotes the value of reading and literacy in a fun, shared way. I know that we have been missing our library for the last few weeks with the work around the front of the school, with students excited to return as soon possible.

Wallington Wellbeing Day – Wednesday 11th June
We are excited to announce that we will be having another whole celebration of Wellbeing at Wallington, with students engaging in a range of activities through the day. This will be followed by activities for students and families to enjoy after school. See ‘Wellbeing’ below for more information.

Building Work
Here are some more progress photos from the new building – painting, pin boards and skirting are all going in with carpeting very near! Just a note on the building, concreting at the front entrance will occur Monday, so please be mindful that there will be an increase in truck traffic during this time. Thank you for your support and patience with the building work. So close now!

Year 6 Debating
On Wednesday evening, two Year 6 teams represented Wallington Primary School in a debating round against Point Lonsdale Primary School. The topic was “Public transport should be free.” Lily, Victoria, and Clancy argued against the topic, while Evie, Charlie, and Zara debated in favour. Both teams delivered clear, convincing arguments and thoughtful rebuttals, showing the effort and preparation, they had put in beforehand.

We’re proud to share that both teams were awarded the win in their debates, an outstanding result! A special congratulations to Victoria and Evie, who were each named Best Speaker in their respective debates.

We extend our thanks to the students from Point Lonsdale for their strong and thoughtful debates, and to Point Lonsdale Primary School for hosting the event. Our students gained a great deal from this experience, particularly from the adjudicator’s detailed feedback following each debate. Thank you to Mr Anderson for making this happen and for attending the debates. Thank you also to all the families for supporting the students throughout their preparation, and a special thank you to Lyndal for her generous help coaching the teams.

Students should be incredibly proud of the way they represented Wallington. We look forward to the next round, where they will debate the topic “Social media should have an age limit.”

STEM & First Nations Studies

Dear Families,

Thankyou to the families who have already donated boxes for our STEM projects, it is much appreciated.

STEM still needs lots of small boxes and shoe boxes over the few weeks. If you also have any old matchbox cars and Lego figures that you would be happy to donate it would also be much appreciated for upcoming activities.

Art Gallery

Dear Families,

Preps- Snails

Preps started with exploring the patterns on a snail's shell and only using primary colours we painted a spiral on a plate noticing that other colours were made when mixed together. Students used a rubbing plate and pastels to experiment with creating texture on their paper for a snail's body.  Preps sponged on acrylic paint in primary colours on A3 paper and tore green paper to create blades of grass for their snail background.  You've done a wonderful job Preps!

Physical Education News

Dear Families,

Last week we were informed Brianna made Team Vic for swimming, and will attend the National Champs in Brisbane July 26th to 31st.

Brianna has been selected for one individual race (100m breaststroke) plus relays. It means she's the 4th best Multi Class swimmer in the S19 class in Victoria aged 13-15yrs ... A huge congratulations from all of us at Wallington P.S. Go get them girl!

Division Cross Country

This week we took 9 students to Division Cross Country at Eastern Gardens, Geelong. The kids were raring to go, some of them experiencing this level for the first time.

Well done to all the runners who participated, they ran against 30-40 students from other Primary Schools some of which have experience of receiving running coaching. A lot of them came within the top 20-30 places. The kids gained a valuable experience in running a hilly course, understanding how to pace themselves and compete at a higher level. A huge congratulations to Kiyomi who ran an amazing pace. She achieved 4th place overall and will now progress onto the Regional level in the West of Melbourne soon.

Wellbeing at Wallington

Welcome back to Wallington’s weekly wellbeing activities.

This week’s activity asks students to reflect on the strategies they used in their Ready to Learn plan they recorded in their diaries earlier this year.

  • What strategies have they used since then?

  • Did they work?

  • Are there other strategies they think might work?

On page 100 of the diary there are prompts and ideas students can use to support them to try new strategies and reflect on times when they have experienced strong or overwhelming emotions.

Hello Wallington families,

After the success of last year’s whole school Welbeing day, we are planning another on Wednesday the 11th of June.

Students will spend the day participating in wellbeing activities with their class, playing games in multi-age groups and activities organised by our Junior School Council. After school there will be a range of activities for students and their families to complete.

We have organised a coffee van, The Brew That Is True, for the afternoon activities to provide us with a caffeine boost to keep up with the students' enthusiasm.

We will share more information about the day in coming weeks, so keep an eye out!

Breakfast club was busy this morning with lots of students enjoying the warm toast in this cold weather! Thankyou to Ms Cook and our Year 6 helpers!

Just a reminder that Breakfast Club will be running every Thursday morning from 8.45am outside the hall kitchen. Come and join us for some toast with jam or vegemite.
